# Salary Data API

Official pay figures from national statistics offices. Base: https://api.salarydataapi.com/v1. Key in `Authorization: Bearer <key>`. Full manual: https://salarydataapi.com/documentation/manual.md

## Which call answers which question

- A country's pay, or a group's: `GET /v1/pay?country=<cc>&series=pay.median.monthly` with occupation, sex, age, education, hours or area.
- A country's headline: `GET /v1/countries/<cc>/headline`. Every country's at once: `GET /v1/pay/headline`.
- Find an occupation's id: `GET /v1/occupations/search?q=<words>`, then use it as occupation=.
- One role across countries: `GET /v1/occupations/<id>/pay` (Analyst).
- Over time: take `series` from any answer, then `GET /v1/series/<id>/observations`; in today's prices `/real`; in US dollars `/converted`.
- Compare countries: `GET /v1/compare/countries?countries=gb,de,jp&series=pay.median.yearly`. Ranked: `GET /v1/rank`.
- The gender pay gap: `GET /v1/pay/gender-gap?country=<cc>` (Analyst).
- What a country publishes: `GET /v1/countries/<cc>/breakdowns`.

## Reading the answers

- Names are pay.<statistic>.<period>[.net]: median, mean, p10 to p90; hourly, weekly, monthly, yearly.
- `value` is in `currency`, the country's own, for `period` (2025, 2025-Q2, 2025-06). Always say the period and currency.
- `value_usd` is at that period's rate (Pro and above, else null).
- `meta.note` and `meta.series` say when the answer is the nearest figure rather than the one asked for.
- Errors: `upgrade_required` names the plan; `quota_exceeded` says when it resets.

## MCP tools

- `get_pay`: The pay figure you ask for: a country, a statistic and period of pay, and any breakdown. The latest period unless you ask for others.
- `list_countries`: Every country with figures, its region, its currency and how much it publishes.
- `country_headline`: A country's headline pay figure: everyone, every occupation, the median where it publishes one, else the mean.
- `search_series`: Every pay series that matches what you ask for: a country, a statistic, a period of pay and any breakdown.
- `series_history`: Every figure of a series, oldest first, for the whole country or one area.
- `find_occupation`: Occupations whose name or code matches what you type.
- `occupation_across_countries`: An occupation's latest pay in every country that publishes it, in one call, with US dollars to compare.
- `occupation_distribution`: An occupation's pay from the 10th to the 90th percentile, where the country publishes them.
- `gender_gap`: How much less women are paid than men, in per cent of men's pay, by period, for everyone or each occupation and age band.
- `compare_countries`: The countries you name side by side on one figure, in their own currency and in US dollars.
- `rank_countries`: Every country ranked on its headline pay in US dollars, a year's pay, highest first.
- `convert_money`: An amount from one currency to another at a period's average rate.
- `adjust_for_prices`: An amount of a country's money in one year, in the prices of another year, from its consumer price index.
